Frank R. Neuvirth Jr., 81, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018.
Frank was born June 12, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Genevieve (Soja) Neuvirth. He grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, and was a resident of Rochester for 29 years.
The dash between birth and returning to his father in heaven was a long journey for Frank; 81 years, 10 months and 21 days. He experienced many things in his life, too many to list them all here, but here are some highlights. One of Frank’s proudest achievements was becoming a private pilot. Frank enjoyed talking to people, whether sharing his life experiences, telling stories, telling jokes to make people laugh or just being a good friend. He also enjoyed watching people as they interacted with each other and grew. In his later years, Frank had fun scooting around the neighborhood in his wheelchair watching the kids play.
When Frank was a young man, he served eight years in the Michigan Army National Guard, which benefited him as a security guard later in life. He helped manage a farm in Milan, Michigan, and in Elkton, Minnesota. Frank was also mechanically inclined and was fond of taking things apart and fixing things. He used this talent for maintenance around the farm and in building maintenance when they moved to the city.
Through all of life’s challenges and setbacks, Frank persevered. In recent years, with his health issues, Frank maintained a positive attitude. He was recovering from a recent setback when his health turned for the worse and he ended up finding a restful peace in heaven Friday morning May 4, 2018.
Frank is survived by his sons, Ken (Karin) Neuvirth of Durham, North Carolina, Andrew (Heidi) Neuvirth of Rochester and Jay Neuvirth of Rochester; grandchildren, Devan (Hannah), Miles, Serria, James, Nathan, Henry and Abigail; great-grandson, Owen; brother, Robert (Janet) Neuvirth; and family of Elkton/Adams, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Genevieve; his beloved wife, Gertrude; and his son, David.
Frank and his family want to send love and thanks to all of his family and friends that had known him.
A celebration of life service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (559 20th St. SW, Rochester, MN). Online condolences are welcome and may be shared at mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
