Sumner Elementary School received what will be an enduring reminder of the service provided by the late Norman Hecimovich.
Hecimovich, who died in February, served as principal in the Austin School District from 1969 to 1995, including Sumner.
His widow, Helen, wanted a flag presented to the family by the VFW to be used and thought “there would be nothing better than to present this to Sumner school.”
Hecimovich was a much-decorated U.S. Army veteran who served in three wars and who earned some 25 awards for valor.
