Quintex Javonte Calhoun, 25, of Austin was charged on Friday in Mower County District Court with two counts of felony domestic assault.
According to the court complaint, an officer responded to a domestic call at 9:44 p.m. on April 29 in the 100 block of Eighth Avenue Northwest. A woman at the residence said Calhoun, who previously lived with her, came over and took her phone from her because he wanted to know who she was texting. He then allegedly grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the floor.
Two minor children were living at the residence and the woman went into her son’s room because she thought Calhoun would not hurt her in front of them, according to the complaint. Calhoun allegedly went into the room and tried to pull her out by her wrist when she refused to go into the other room to talk to him, resulting in a scratch. She said they spoke in the other room and he apologized for pulling her hair and left.
She complained about having neck pain from him pulling her hair, according to the report. The two children at the residence allegedly told the officer they saw Calhoun assault her.
Police located and spoke to Calhoun, who denied going to the residence and assaulting her, according to the complaint. He allegedly accused her of “harassing” him and trying to get him in trouble.
A review of Calhoun’s criminal record shows prior convictions for assault. He is also awaiting trial on two counts of felony fifth-degree drug possession and gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process-resisting arrest.
Calhoun will appear in court again on May 17.
