Fundraising for the Austin Community Rec Center has reached almost 69 percent of its $5 million goal.

The committee announced Friday that it had reached $3,431,497 in public fundraising.

The project, which has been a Vision 2020 goal since April 2012, has a projected budget of $35 million.

The Hormel Foundation donated $25 million of that budget, while Hormel Foods donated an additional $5 million.

The new 105,000-square foot center will be built on the site of the old Austin Utilities building.
