Deer causes Wednesday motorcycle accident

An Austin man was injured Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with a deer.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, law enforcement received a call at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday concerning a motorcycle accident on County Road 3 and Highway 218.

When deputies and Austin police officers arrived, the motorcycle’s rider, Scott Trimble, 55, was standing on the side of the road bleeding from his head and his arms. Several people passing by had stopped to assist him.

Austin Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.

Trimble said he had been going eastbound on County Road 3 at approximately 30 miles per hour when the deer jumped in front of his motorcycle, according to May. Trimble was able to answer simple questions, but was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and later flown to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester.

Trimble was not wearing a helmet at the time.
