Franklin LaVern Pinkava, 85, passed away Jan. 9, 2018.
Frank was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Austin, Minnesota, to Edward and Lura (Lonergan) Pinkava.
Frank grew up on the family farm in Brownsdale, Minnesota, before joining the Marine Corps in 1952. He spent many of his working years as a janitor in a variety of school systems. He spent many years in Austin, Circle Pines, Minnesota, Sebeka, Minnesota, and Emery, South Dakota. Frank’s favorite activities were tinkering in the garage and metal detecting.
Frank is survived by his children, Michiel Pinkava of Moorhead, Minnesota, Brenda (Mark) Huhtala of Moorhead and Jeffry (Charlene) Pinkava of Arlington, South Dakota; his four grandchildren, David and Stacy Huhtala and Max and Anne Pinkava; his siblings, Edyth Dittmer, Austin, and Edward Pinkava, Austin; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Lura Pinkava; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Vernon Tapp; brother-in-law, Elmer Dittmer; and brother, James Pinkava.
Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Shari Mason officiating. Family and friends will gather after the interment at Austin Congregational UCC, 1910 Third Ave. NW, Austin, MN 55912 for a meal and sharing of memories.
