JoAnn Alice Hughes, 77, of Chatfield, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday morning, May 30 at her daughter’s home surrounded by loved ones, in Chatfield.
JoAnn was born July 11, 1940, in Austin to Chester and Alice (Hallstad) Francis. She grew up in the LeRoy area, and graduated from LeRoy High School. JoAnn and Everett Hughes were married June 6, 1959, in Leroy. They farmed near McIntire, Iowa, later moving to Austin where JoAnn worked at Hormel for many years. Following retirement, JoAnn worked for Kwik Trip stores in Austin as a food demonstrator.
JoAnn was witty and enjoyed playing jokes on her family and friends. She was always concerned about the needs of others before herself. Her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children, Lori Hall (Greg Vanscoyk) of Chatfield, Debbie Hughes (Scott Losee), of Riceville, Iowa, and Dan Hughes of Spearfish, South Dakota; nine grandchildren, Brad (Stacey) Losee, Heather (Zach) Demmer, Brittany Hall, Adam Losee, Sammie (Jared) Bohr, Hannah Losee (Brandon Melloon), Olivia Hughes, Katie Hughes, and Charlotte Hughes; and 12 great-grandchildren, Jade, Kellen, Judge, Lawson, Dalton, Hunter, Ayden, Ryder, Kyzer, Paxton, Owen, and Violet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett in 2001; a sister, Shirley Eschen; a brother, Bob Francis; and her cocker spaniel, Mandy, who she worshipped.
A celebration of JoAnn’s life will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Riceville Country Club, 402 W Main St., Riceville.
