Making a splash; Austin Municipal Pool opens for summer season

The threat of rain couldn’t keep some excited visitors away on Monday as the Austin Municipal Pool officially opened for the 2018 Summer Season.
Making their debut with the opening were two new water slides; a 158-foot curly slide and a 60-foot drop slide.
The slides were made possible thanks to a grant from the Hormel Foundation.
Like the previous slides, visitors must be at least four feet tall to ride them.
“That is the slide recommendations from the manufacturer because you’re jumping into 3 ½ feet of water,” said Austin Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Kim Underwood.
Four two-week swim lesson sessions will be held beginning June 18. Aqua Zumba classes will be held from 7-7:45 p.m. on Mondays from June 11-Aug. 13, aqua boot camp sessions will be held 12:10-12:40 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 12-Aug. 14, and deep water workout classes will be held from 6-6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 13-Aug. 15.
Other events being held this summer at the pool include Family Fun Night on July 27 and Doggie Dip on Aug. 17.
Austin Municipal Pool hours are 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1-6 p.m. on Saturday and 2-7 p.m. on Sunday. It will also be open from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
