Ruben Trevino, 46, of Austin was arrested Thursday evening for allegedly trying to steal electronic equipment from an impounded vehicle.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, law enforcement received a call at 6 p.m. on Thursday from someone who witnessed a man going through the Mower County impound lot. An Austin police officer and two Mower County deputies arrived and spotted Trevino, who then ran before they arrested him.
Deputies searched the area where they saw him and found electronic equipment on the ground next to a car with a broken window, according to May. The window was already broken when the vehicle was impounded.
Trevino was searched and drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs were allegedly found on his person. It is unknown if the drugs were prescribed to him.
Trevino’s bike was found outside the impound fence, May said.
Trevino was taken to the Mower County Jail and could face possible charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft and trespassing.
