Summerset Theatre kicked off Season 51 Wednesday evening with the opening of “Musical of Musicals (The Musical).”

It was also the night that the shows for Summerset Season 52 (2019) were announced:

• Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” June 20-23 and June 27-30

• “Mamma Mia!” July 25-28 and Aug. 1-4

“The number one requested show that people want to see in Austin is ‘Mamma Mia,’ and the rights just became available so we jumped at it,” said Summerset Theatre co-director Randy Forster. “We also felt strongly about doing a show for the whole family, and Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ definitely fits the bill.”

Although Season 52 features only two shows versus the traditional three, Forster said they will be quite the spectacle.

“We realize that we are breaking from tradition by only doing two shows next year; however, we really wanted to put all of our energy and resources into doing these two musicals,” he said. “People want to see big Broadway style shows, so that is what we are going to give them. We are so excited and can’t wait to start designing and making plans for Season 52.”

Forster also said that Season 52 passes will soon be available for purchase for $30 until Aug. 10, after which they will be $35. General admission tickets will be $20 and child/student tickets will be $12.
