The results of Austin’s 2018 Performance Measurements Survey are in, showing mixed results for the city.

The survey, which is authorized through the Office of the State Auditor of Minnesota, asked participants to rate 10 categories as “excellent,” “good,” “fair,” “poor” or “don’t know.” The city’s participation in the survey is voluntary; however, cities and counties that participate are eligible to receive extra Local Government Aid.

This year, only 133 Austin residents (approximately 0.538 percent of the city’s population) participated in the survey. Fire protection and library services rated among the highest, with 73 percent of those surveyed rating them “excellent” or “good,” while condition of the city streets rated the lowest, with 67 percent of those surveyed rating them “fair” or “poor.”
