Handgun, wallet stolen from unlocked vehicles; Police reminding citizens to secure property

Police are reminding people to secure their property after several items were stolen from unlocked vehicles.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers received a call about a stolen pistol at 11:03 p.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of 15th Street Northeast. The victims said a black Sig Sauer P320 9mm pistol, valued at $500, with a fully loaded 15-shot magazine, was missing from their vehicle. They said they had been loading groceries in their vehicle earlier in the evening and forgot to lock it. When they returned, the saw the holster was empty.
They estimated the theft occurred between 9:47 and 10:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Krueger also said the police were called at 2:18 a.m. on Monday regarding a wallet and purse theft from another unlocked vehicle. The victim said she was in the 200-300 block of Third Avenue Southwest when a small black purse was stolen from her vehicle. The purse contained a light pink wallet with the name “Steve Madden” written on it.
The wallet contained an undisclosed amount of cash, her Social Security card, driver’s license and bank cards.
She estimated the theft occurred between midnight and 2 a.m. on Monday. She realized the purse and wallet were missing after she returned to her residence.
Police have no suspects in either case.
