Margaret A. “Pat” Steichen, 91

Margaret Ann was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Waseca, Minnesota, to Herbert Charles and Margaret Ellen “Nellie” (Roach) Cooper. Margaret “Pat” grew up in Rochester and was a member of the first graduating class from Lourdes High School. Pat moved to Minneapolis to begin working in the airline industry. Her job with the airlines took her to Seattle, Washington, where she met her future husband. She returned to Minnesota and was united in marriage to Roman Edward Steichen on Oct. 4, 1958, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester. Pat and Roman raised their family and lived their entire married life in Austin. Pat volunteered her time at the Philomathian Religious Books and Gifts in Austin and with the Mower County Council for the Handicapped. She was a longtime member of St. Edward and St. Augustine Catholic parishes in Austin, where she was active in the prayer chain over the years. Pat enjoyed playing piano, singing, playing cards and sewing. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved family reunions. Pat was known for her quick wit and great sense of humor. At the center of her life was the love she had for her family.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roman; sons, Raymond (Marie) Steichen of Spring Valley, Minnesota, Dan (Sandy) Steichen of Lakeland, Minnesota, Mike (Dana) Steichen of Austin, Minnesota, and Joseph (Charisse) Steichen of Austin, Texas; daughters, Bawn (Sean) Kazos of Maplewood, Minnesota, and Theresa Steichen and Deon Williams of Blaine, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Cooper and Ruth Cooper. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and grandson, Kevin Dammen.
