Richard L. Anderson, 85, of North Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
Richard Lee Anderson was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Owatonna, Minnesota, the son of Everett and Libbie (Prokopec) Anderson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1950 and from the Austin Community College in 1952. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Dick married Vae Ann Vinless on July 18, 1953, in Junction City, Kansas. The Andersons made their home in Austin, where Richard worked as the County Assessor for Mower County.
Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past president of the Austin Kiwanis Club, past president of the Minnesota Assessors Association and was the treasurer and manager of the Mower County Credit Union. Dick was an avid golfer and liked playing and watching all sports. He enjoyed traveling, especially to California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee; brother, Don; mother-in-law and father-in-law.
Dick is survived by his wife, Vae Anderson, North Mankato; children, Lori (Dave) Wangen, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Lon (Jan) Anderson, North Mankato, Mark Anderson, Pacific Grove, California, Jim King, Duluth, Minnesota, and Cindy Anderson, Annandale, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
