Police are looking for two men suspected of stealing a safe from the Hiawatha Bar Sunday morning.
Someone flagged down an officer patrolling in the east side bar area at 4:01 a.m. on Sunday and said the west door of the Hiawatha Bar was open, said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger. The officer was told two individuals had been seen in the area.
The officer cleared the building and found no one inside. A member of the bar’s management staff arrived after receiving an alert that motion sensors had been triggered while the police were searching the building. The manager noticed the smaller of two safes, containing an undisclosed amount of cash and checks, was missing.
Krueger said officers reviewed footage from an exterior camera. Two men, one wearing a black jacket, striped shirt and camouflage pants, the other wearing a white shirt and white baseball cap, were caught on tape at 3:15 a.m.
The police report did not indicate if the door had been tampered with or if the two suspects had triggered the motion sensors.
