Matthew John Murphy, 54, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at his home.
Matthew was born Nov. 18, 1963, in Austin to John and Judith Murphy. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. He attended Riverland Votech.
He worked for Maloney Standard for several years, Carney Auto for 23 years, and for Bellisio Foods the last two years.
Matthew was a caring person. Many called him “Murph-Man.” He lived with and took care of his grandmother for 25 years so she could remain in her own home. He brought a stray momma cat home from Carneys and ended up with three of them. He enjoyed helping his friend, Deven Sutter, when Deven was racing cars. He liked fishing, hunting, golf and playing guitar. He was always good to ask for advice on car repairs. We will miss him.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Judith Murphy; a sister; two nephews; niece and great-nephew; aunts and uncles; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Murphy; a brother, Mark L. Murphy; maternal grandmother, Mildred Schradle; and paternal grandparents, Willard and Irene Murphy.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Mayer Funeral Home with Cory Goetz officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
