Eugene Leo Murphy, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Sept. 1, 2018.

Eugene was born to Bernie and Lela Murphy on July 7, 1922, on the kitchen table at the family farm in Lyle, Minnesota. He grew up on the farm with his six brothers and two sisters as the years went by.

Eugene married Bernice Messall at St. Augustine Catholic Church on July 11, 1943. They lived in Austin for 45 years, moved to Texas for 16 years, and returned to Lake City, Minnesota, where they lived when Bernice died on Jan. 14, 2002, at the age of 78.

Eugene joined Hormel in December 1944 and retired in 1984 after 40 years.

In his free time, Gene enjoyed spending time in Lake City, fishing, playing cards, gardening, visiting friends and particularly spending time with all of his numerous grandchildren.

Eugene will be remembered as kind, gentle, caring and a loving family man and grandpa.

Eugene is survived by five daughters, Joyce (Larry) Mueller, Austin, Judith (Joseph) Krebsbach, Austin, Carole (Thomas) Kroc, Madison Lake, Minnesota, Bonnie (Paul) Johnson, Dawn Ferguson, Florida; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Keller and Jeannine Kellogg.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Lela; wife, Bernice; grandchildren, Troy and Theresa Mueller; and brothers, Elton, DeWayne, Dale, and Doug, He will be greatly missed by all .

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
