Q: How did you originally get into swimming?

A: I’ve been swimming for as long as I can remember. My mom used to take me to the pool every single day, and I started swimming for the Y team in third grade. I joined the high school team, along with the rest of my fellow seniors, in the sixth grade. Since then I’ve definitely learned a lot!

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My sports memory was in eighth grade. We have been rivals with Mankato East in swimming forever, and at that point we had beat them at their pool for like 40 years in a row. That meet we ended up winning by one point, it felt high-stakes throughout, and it was easily my favorite win of ours.

Q: What have you learned from sports?

A: Sports has taught me so much about the value of hard work and how important it is to have a positive attitude. The coolest thing about sports to me, is that no matter where you start from, whether you are good at something or not, you always have room to push yourself and to improve. The positive attitude comes from our first weeks of practice where we are working 3- 4 hours a day. Having a positive mindset and keeping a smile on your face makes it so much better.

Q: What is the hardest part about sports?

A: The hardest part about sports is staying balanced. Sometimes it’s hard after a long day at school to jump in the pool and tackle 5,000 yards but you have to remember that it’s worth it in the end.

Q: How do you keep your focus when competing?

A: To keep my focus when competing I’ll usually always be listening to music to hype myself up or dancing around just to kill some of the nerves. I try to focus on the water in front of me and you’ll always see swimmers slapping their legs or each other before races. That actually helps sometimes. It helps me to get mad sometimes too, which sounds silly, but it pumps me up in the water.

Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?

A:. My biggest sports role model has to be my dad. He is always trying to coach me no matter what the sport.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: “Grease”

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: History

Q: What is your dream job?

A: Probably a nurse on a burn unit. There’s very few burn centers in the midwest.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Anything from Raising Cane’s

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: My plans after high school are to attend a four year university to pursue a nursing career

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?

A: I work at a nursing home!

Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be?

A: Right now? My super power would probably be the ability to breathe under water
