Hulne: BP football team is hoping to contend this fall

Championships are never won early on in the season, but often contenders begin to show themselves in the early weeks of a season.
The Blooming Prairie football team, which is currently ranked, has established itself as a contender. But the Awesome Blossoms still have a lot to prove if they want to make a push towards taking the Section 1A crown.
What BP has done so far this fall is truly dominant. Senior quarterback Seth Peterson has completed 78 percent (52-for-67) of his passes for 1,0008 yards and 16 TDs in just three games and BP is outscoring opponents on average of 44.3-8.7 so far.
But the Awesome Blossoms still have their toughest tests ahead of them. While BP certainly can’t look past Winona Cotter, where it plays this Friday, the team will show how good it can be when it hosts Goodhue Sept. 28 and hosts Rushford-Peterson on Oct. 17.
The Wildcats and Trojans, who are perennial powers in Section 1A, have also racked up three blowout wins to start the season and both have been familiar foes for BP over the years. Goodhue knocked off BP in a highly contested Section 1A title game just last season.
With a highly experienced quarterback in Peterson and an absolute beast of a target in Gabe Hagen BP has already proven it can score on a consistent basis.
How BP plays on defense and special teams will likely decide how far the Blossoms will go this season.
