OWATONNA — The Austin football team ran into a juggernaut when it lost to top-ranked and defending Class AAAAA state champ Owatonna 63-27 on the road Friday.

The Packers (1-2 overall) made a move to grab momentum when Hunter Guyette took the opening kick-off of the second half 95 yards for a TD to pull Austin within 35-20, but the Huskies (3-0 overall) answered with four straight scoring drives to put the game away.

“It’s really a true test because you’re matched up against, if not the best in the state, for sure one of the best in the state,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said. “You can see how well you did against them. We’ll watch film on it and we understand that things aren’t going to get a lot harder than that game right there.”

The Huskies set the tone early as Jason Williamson had a 54-yard TD burst on a fourth and two on Owatonna’s first possession to make it 6-0. Williamson added TD runs of 37 and 52 yards. The Huskies led 35-14 at the break.

“They block really hard up front and Williamson is really tough to tackle,” Austin head coach Brett Vesel said. “We didn’t do a good job of gang tackling him and I though several times we were in position to make a tackle and he busted it off for a big one.”
