The Austin Police Department is reminding drivers to be alert for student school crossing guards after reports of several near misses.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, the APD has received numerous reports from schools around the city of motorists driving around student school crossing guards or through their flags while trying to allow students to cross the street. School crossing guards are dressed appropriately so as to stand out to drivers.

Krueger said drivers need to be cautious and stop for these crossing guards just as they would an adult crossing guard.
