Raymond Blowers, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.
Ray was born March 8, 1925, in Austin, the son of Walter S. and Nellie (Roebuck) Blowers. He attended Austin High School and began working at the Tendermaid in Austin from the time they opened in 1938 and continued to work there part-time, even after he started working for the Geo. A. Hormel Co. He worked for Hormel Foods for 41 years until his retirement. Ray married Beverly May Borris on Sept. 16, 1944, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
Ray was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling, fishing and pheasant hunting. Ray and Bev liked to travel and they loved to go dancing at the Terp Ballroom. Ray especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly, in 2008; grandson, Jason Blowers; brothers and sisters.
Ray is survived by his son, Michael Blowers, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Terry Fox, Austin, and Sally and Chuck Cleland, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; grandchildren, Scott Fox, Austin, Sara Fox and David Whatley, Redondo Beach, California, and Jennifer Beckel, Austin; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Mark Niethammer officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Hormel Institute for Cancer Research or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
