Brownsdale Study Club
The Brownsdale Study Club met at the home of Leone Peterson.
Our meeting was opened by reading the collect. Ten members answered roll call by “a favorite fall recipe.”
In old business, Leone reported on the progress of Legacy, our new assisted living facility. It will be another 35-40 days to finish after which there will be an open house. New business: Our fall outing will be Sept. 27 with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Hubble House in Mantorville, followed by visiting the shops of interest.
Shelley Vogel passed out our new program booklets for 2018-19.
A motion was made by Mary Gallaher and second by Sharon Willis to compensate the library for use of their copier with a $25 donation. Motion was passed.
There was no other business. Sharon made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Mary Mortiz.
Shelley gave the outside reading titled the “Centennial Light,” which is known to be the oldest working light bulb, installed in 1901. Sharon gave the main topic, “The History of the School Bus.”
Various configurations of school buses are used worldwide. The most iconic examples are the yellow school buses used in the United States and Canada, distinct in their glossy yellow paint and black lettering.
It is considered easiest to see at dawn and dusk.
Our October meeting will be hosted by Mary. Leone served us sandwiches and homemade kolachy.
Y’s Women’s Club
Y’s Women of the Hormel Historic Home began their 25th season on Sept. 13.
Members enjoyed a fun outing on a beautiful fall day. We had lunch at the Ellendale cafe and shopped at the meat market. We then went to Pat White’s cabin on Beaver Lake for the afternoon. Pat served delicious pumpkins desserts.
We will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Hormel Home. Kris Johnson from the Mayo Clinic will be the program speaker.
