Elizabeth “Betty” Apold, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at the Cedars of Austin.
Betty was born June 20, 1926, in Austin to Leonard Clay and Ruth E. (Peck)
Heisey. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1944.
On Aug. 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Burdette D. Apold at First United Methodist Church. They were married until his death on July 27, 1969. Betty moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1973 and returned to Austin in June 2017.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Austin and Hamline United Methodist in St. Paul. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi, Austin YMCA, and Girl Scouts.
Betty enjoyed golfing, sewing, crafts and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Countz of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Nancy (Jim) Heimer of Austin; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, “Birdy”; and brother, Leonard Claire Heisey.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Hamline Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
