Get to Know: Simon Hirst

Austin senior Simon Hirst is a member of the Austin cycling team.
Q: What sports do you compete in?
A: I compete in mountain biking, soccer, and volleyball.
Q: How did you originally get into mountain biking?
A: I heard about the team from a friend. When he told me about it the team was in its first year and I joined the second year.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: Going to state for soccer multiple different years.
Q: What have you learned from sports?
A: I have learned to put forth my best effort and that the effort you put in is what you get out.
Q: What is the hardest part about sports?
A: The hardest part is getting into shape and being able to maintain the shape you’re in.
Q: How do you keep your focus when competing?
A: I keep my focus by not worrying about the people around me and not comparing myself to them.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: My biggest sports role model is Aaron Rodgers. He is a great leader and has lead his to team to being great. He also has come back from multiple injuries and has just gotten better and always continues to improve.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: My favorite TV show is currently “MacGyver.”
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: My favorite subject is math.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I would like to work for Google.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is basically any kind of chicken.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: I plan to attend a four year university for engineering.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?
A: I enjoy traveling to different places I have never been to.
Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
A: I would want to be able to time travel.
