Letter: Feehan has the right idea on public service

Big money. Outside money. Dark money. According to KSTP’s “At Issue with Tom Hauser” (broadcast Sunday, Oct. 28), $10,736,516 — yes, over 10 million dollars! — had been spent in just Southern Minnesota’s First Congressional District as of the previous Friday. Outside money, not from local politicians who are hopefully concerned about Southern Minnesota. Dark money that we cannot question and hold accountable for their ads’ claims. I’m tired and I’m scared of big money endangering our democracy.
Big money did get their big tax cuts — really big cuts for the one percent. These cuts have led to a huge deficit, which Republicans have already said they plan to use to justify cutting what they call “entitlements,” programs like Social Security, which so many of us rely on. This sort of thing has already started. My property taxes are going up for six reasons, and three of those reasons are cuts in federal programs.
While there’s outside money touting most candidates, lots of the negative television ads target Dan Feehan, probably because he refuses to take big corporate money. Dan Feehan believes that elected officials should be public servants. Wow. Dan Feehan gives me hope that the idea of public service won’t be destroyed by greed, by big money. Please join me in voting for Dan Feehan for Congress.
This is a very big election. Greed, hate, disrespect: This woman is hoping that much of that can be washed away by a blue wave.
