Most of us can acknowledge a person in our life that has influenced us and helped shaped who we are today. For me, a person like this is Lead Detective Steve Sandvik. During my senior year at Austin High School, I had the privilege of having him as my mentor. I spent countless hours by his side learning all aspects of his career. From this opportunity, I gained more experience, wisdom, and perseverance. Through the instruction and guidance of Sandvik, he helped me expand my strengths and the values I bring to the table. He encouraged me to continue working hard and achieve my goals in life. He always puts others before him and does his work out of love and care for others. The hard work and dedication he puts into his job doesn’t go unnoticed. Everyone should know what it feels like to have a mentor as great as Steve Sandvik and know he will make a great sheriff for Mower County.
