Kidanemariam Abraha Kidane, 34, of Austin, pleaded guilty to felony terroristic threats-reckless disregard as part of a plea agreement on Thursday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge on June 28.
A charge of felony domestic assault by strangulation will be dismissed at the sentencing.
According to court documents, police were called at 4:48 a.m. on June 13 to a residence in the 300 block of 14th Street Southeast. They spoke to a woman, via the language line, who said Kidane slapped her, hit her, threw something at her and strangled her after an argument. She then said that he threatened to strike her with a metal rod.
Police used the language line to speak to Kadine, who denied choking her, only grabbing the front of her shirt, according to court documents. He admitted to threatening her with the metal rod because he wanted to get information from her. He showed police the metal rod, which was 2 ½ feet long and had sharp edges on both sides. The woman identified it as the rod he threatened her with.
Kidane will be sentenced on Jan. 31.
