A couple from rural Adams was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester after their vehicle was rear-ended by a pick-up truck Wednesday evening.
According to Mower County Senior Sgt. Investigator Steve Sandvik, the accident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday at County Road 2 and 793rd Avenue near Racine.
A 78-year-old rural Adams woman was injured when a Chevy Silverado rear-ended her Dodge Neon. Her passenger, an 84-year-old man from rural Adams, was also injured.
The driver of the Chevy, Colleen Peckham, 48, of Lime Springs, Iowa, said she was using an inhaler at the time of the accident, having noticed the Dodge Neon too late, according to Sandvik.
The Dodge’s male passenger was extricated by Spring Valley firefighters and flown to the hospital by Mayo 1. The driver was transported to the hospital by Grand Meadow Ambulance.
The Minnesota State Patrol and Mower County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
Sandvik said the injured couple was unable to speak to law enforcement and their condition is not known at this time. Because of this, their identities have not been released.
No citations have been issued at this time.
