End of year business on council agenda

The Austin City Council will focus on end-of-the-year business, including the approval of the budget and tax levy for 2019, during its next regular meeting on Monday.

The proposed budget for 2019 is $34,947,319, broken down between general government services (such as public safety and highways and streets), tax increment financing revenue pool, enterprise funds (such as sewer use and waste transfer station) and internal service funds (such as equipment garage and fire equipment services).

The proposed tax levy for 2019 is $6,873,000, an increase of $932,000, or 15.69 percent, over 2018’s levy. The tax is levied based on assessed property value.

There will be a public hearing on the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan, which highlights proposed city spending over the next five-year period, during the meeting.

The council will also recognize city employees who retired in 2018 and appoint and reappoint individuals to various city boards and commissions.

The council’s next regular meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, in the City Council chambers located in the basement of City Hall. There will not be a work session following the regular meeting.
