Rita Marie Barclay, 53

Rita attended Austin High School and graduated with the class of 1983. She had grown up on roller skates and worked at the rink in Brownsdale, Minnesota, during her teen years. Following high school, she answered her calling in life by attending nursing school. She spent the majority of her career caring for our elderly at both Comforcare Nursing Home and then Adams Health Care Center.  She strongly advocated for her patients and loved them dearly.

In 1985, Rita met the love of her life, Harry Hayden. She wrote, “I never knew that caring for someone could be so great.” They spent 34 years together enjoying family and friends. They liked to bowl, camp and golf. Rita was very social and known for getting friends together to go “water towering”.

She had many special people in her life. Annie and Corbie were very influential people during adolescence and helped shape her future. Georgette is a highly valued friend, mentor and boss. Uncle Jim’s was a great summer get-a-way where she cared for and showed horses. She was full of life and laughter. She gave far more than she ever accepted. The famous quote, “Live, Laugh and Love” describes Rita perfectly.

Visitation will be held at from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Mayer Funeral Home with a celebration of life to follow. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
