Simley downs Austin boys hockey team

The Austin boys hockey team ran into some third period blues as it lost to Simley 6-2 in Riverside Arena Saturday.
The Spartans (4-3-1 overall) scored three times in the third period to take over what had been a close game through two periods. Austin head coach Jason Merritt is hoping the loss teaches his team to respond more favorably when things go south.
“I just think once we gave up that fourth goal, the air let out and we knew it would be a hard battle back,” Merritt said. “It was more mental then anything. Once your down, it’s easy to point your finger at your teammate, but you have to pick up your teammates. We have to be supportive on the bench and on the ice and be teammates.”
Cal Fox and Kaleb Ree each had one goal in the loss for the Packers (2-3 overall) and Ryan Flanders stopped 29 shots in net.
“Simley is a good team,” Merritt said. “We have to be able to pick ourselves up on offense and defense. We had some good moments, but we have to be more consistent.”
