A report of a stolen vehicle led to an arrest on Sunday in Austin.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers took a stolen vehicle report at 4:19 p.m. on Sunday. The victim said he left his gray 2010 Honda Pilot unlocked and running in the 400 block of 10th Street Northeast. When he came outside, he saw it was gone and immediately called police.
While police were talking to the victim, an officer spotted the vehicle turning onto Eighth Street Northeast from Sixth Avenue Northeast, Krueger said. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop at 10th Street and Fifth Avenue Northeast and arrested David Winfield Boatman Jr., 36, the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Boatman allegedly told police a man named “Jay” gave him permission to drive the vehicle; however, the victim did not recognize him.
Boatman was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with felony theft-take/drive motor vehicle without owner consent and misdemeanor driving without a valid license.
