Alvin Gene Smalley, 66, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint. Marys Campus-Rochester.
He was born Aug. 5, 1952, in Austin to Vaughn and Shirley (Smith) Smalley. He graduated from Austin High School. Following high school, he worked for Cedar Valley. Alvin enjoyed filling his free time going for walks, watching TV and going shopping. On most mornings you could find him having a cup of coffee with a friend; he enjoyed socializing. He especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Alvin will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his siblings, Ronald (Janice) Smalley of LeRoy, Minnesota, Gary Smalley of Minnesota Lakes, Minnesota, Debbie (Kevin) Mott of Waconia, Minnesota, and Nancy (David) Degroot of Duluth, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Tim Coulton of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Shirley Smalley; siblings, Connie Coulton and Mark Smalley; and nephews, Andrew Curtis and Gary Jr. Smalley.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Kim Bina officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family.
