The Austin Rotary, in conjunction with Austin Public Schools, selected Jacob Steinbach and Riley Wempner December Rotary Students of the Month.
Steinbach, a 4.0 student with perfect attendance, is a member of DECA and a captain on the Austin High School track and field team.
“Education [is] a very rewarding and wonderful gift that is more of an opportunity than a given,” Jacob said. “If you apply yourself, you can learn anything. Austin Public Schools has given me a very unique education I am proud of.”
Jacob’s future plans include attending a four-year university to pursue a degree in biology with an eye toward pursuing a degree in optometry.
Wempner is a hockey and baseball player who was named to the 2018 All-Conference baseball team. His future plans include attending Bemidji State University to pursue a degree involving math, possibly accounting.
“I have had many great teachers from kindergarten on up, and I credit many of them with making classes enjoyable,” Wempner said. “While I’m glad I’ll be graduating this spring, I’m sure I’ll also find myself a little sad when it’s all over.”
