The No. 4 Grand Meadow girls basketball team avoid an upset when it beat Southland 62-59 overtime in Adams Friday.
The Rebels (2-11 overall) led by as many as six and they held a 57-55 lead late in regulation before the Superlarks (12-0 overall) forced the extra session.
It was the second straight OT loss for the Rebels, but head coach Dean Bendtsen liked the effort his team gave.
“It was an incredibly gratifying game. The girls really played well in both halves,” Bendtsen said. “We just had some transition mistakes where we gave up easy buckets early on. Midway through the first half we played a lot better defense and we contested their shots and passes. We got them out of their shooting rhythm with our intensity.”
