Man charged with allegedly possessing over 45 grams of meth

Shaun Michael Sloan, 36, of Rochester was charged on Friday in Mower County District Court with felony first-degree drugs-sale of 17 grams or more of cocaine of methamphetamine, felony second-degree drugs-possess 25 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine and misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI-under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to the court complaint, a deputy was on patrol at approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday in Racine when he spotted a 2015 GMC Sierra parked near a building north of First Street Northeast. Finding it odd the vehicle was parked in that location at that time, the deputy pulled up and saw Sloan sleeping in the driver’s seat. Believing Sloan might be “passed out,” the deputy conducted a welfare check and saw that Sloan was breathing, The deputy then checked the passenger side and spotted a butane can and a black pencil case that contained several plastic zip top bags, one of which appeared to contain methamphetamine.

The deputy then woke Sloan and ordered him to step out of the vehicle. Sloan reached his hands into his coat pockets and was told to remove his hands.

The deputy observed Sloan was slurring his speech and had red, watery eyes. The deputy arrested Sloan after he failed several field sobriety tests.

The deputy searched the vehicle and found several plastic bags that contained a total of 45.97 grams of methamphetamine, a scale, and a methamphetamine pipe. The methamphetamine was packaged as if it was for sale.

Another methamphetamine pipe and $830 in cash were found on Sloan.

While at the Mower County Jail, Sloan provided a blood sample that was sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory for analysis.

A review of Sloan’s criminal history shows prior convictions for theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, issuing dishonored checks, attempting to manufacture methamphetamine, domestic assault and violating a domestic abuse order for protection.
