Man sentenced to 21 months for domestic assault; Recently acquitted on another domestic assault charge

Edward Terrill Stewart, 47, of Austin was sentenced on Thursday in Mower County District Court to 21 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for felony domestic assault. He received credit for 79 days served.
Judge Jeffrey Kritzer issued the sentence.
Stewart was arrested on May 24, 2018, for assaulting a woman after an argument over her failure to answer his text messages. Court documents state the victim told police Stewart had punched her and scratched her neck. An officer photographed a scratch on the woman’s neck.
While at the Mower County Jail, Stewart said the woman assaulted him. An officer photographed a scratch on Stewart’s neck.
Officers spoke to a neighbor who said he heard noise coming from the residence. The victim then came over and asked him to call the police.
A review of Stewart’s criminal history shows prior convictions for domestic assault and violating a domestic abuse no contact order. He was recently acquitted on another felony domestic assault charge.
