NWS issues wind chill advisory for area

The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a wind chill advisory for Southeast Minnesota and Northeast Iowa in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to noon on Friday.
According to the NWS, residents can expect wind gusts as high as 40 miles per hour, causing blowing and drifting snow, as well as very cold wind chills ranging from 20 below zero to 35 below zero.
The NWS advises to plan on some snow covered roads due to drifting, Areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility, causing possible hazardous conditions for the evening and morning commutes. Use caution in travelling, especially on open roads.
In these conditions, frostbite could occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Hypothermia can also occur if proper precautions are not taken. The NWS advises to wear a warm hat and gloves along with proper attire.
