Best Bets: Fishing for a Cure to take over East Side Lake

Published 7:48 am Thursday, February 7, 2019

The 11th annual Fishing for a Cure event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. this Saturday at East Side Lake.

For $15, participants can fish to help raise money for cancer research at the Hormel Institute. The fee includes bait, a drilled hole, and a light meal at the Eagles after the event. Door prizes will be given to the first 220 participants.

Various raffles, including card and bucket raffles, will be conducted on the ice during the event.

All participants are invited to a meal at the Eagles after fishing ends at 2 p.m. Those who did not participate are still welcome to eat at the Eagles for a free will offering.

Almost 100 items will be up for silent and live auction at the Eagles with a 4 p.m. raffle ticket drawing.

As with the  fishing, all money raised will be donated for cancer research.

According to Hayley Newman, who helps organize the event, Fishing for a Cure was last year’s Pink Heart Recipient, awarded by the Hormel Institute.

“We would love to see everyone come out to help support this great event,” she said.
