The Austin City Council will be holding votes for the preparation, adoption and publication of a cultural and arts commission ordinance during its next regular meeting.
Under the proposed ordinance, a new section to the Austin City Code would be enacted that allows for the creation of a Culture and Arts Commission responsible for advising the council on the development of arts and cultural activities, organizations and facilities in Austin. The commission would initially consist of seven volunteer members serving three-year terms.
The council could expand the number of members to nine via a resolution, per the ordinance.
The council will also vote on a motion to approve an audit engagement letter from CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP regarding the city audit for the 2018 fiscal year. CliftonLarsonAllen has given a quote of $46,335; however, if a single audit is not needed, a discount of $2,500 will be given to the city.
The audit is currently scheduled to begin in early March.
The council will discuss the Local Option Sales Tax during the work session following the meeting.
The next council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, in the Council Chambers located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will take place immediately following the meeting in the conference room located across the hall from the Council Chambers.
