Letter: Blood donors brave weather to save lives
Published 7:40 am Thursday, February 7, 2019
The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross would like to thank all blood donors who braved blizzard conditions and frigid temperatures and came out to donate blood during the January 2019 Austin Community Blood Drive.
A total of 101 units were collected during the three-day draw. Congratulations to donors who received milestone pins, including one 27 gallon. Of course the real winners are the blood recipients; volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need of transfusions.
Thanks to the VFW and volunteers for their help with set-up and to those who worked. Also thanks to the following businesses for their contributions and support: Austin Daily Herald, Rochester Post Bulletin, KAAL TV, KAUS Radio; and to all area businesses and organizations that help promote our blood drives.
Special thanks to staff and members of the Austin National Guard Armory, and Austin Holiday Inn for their hospitality and the use of their facilities for the drive.
The next Austin Community Blood Drive at the Austin Armory will be June 17, 18 and 19.
With the new RapidPass and Blood Donor App, the appointment and donation process is more convenient than ever. Contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or online at www.redcrosssblood.org for more information or to schedule an appointment.
