Betty Jean Husemoller, 92, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at Koda Living Community in Owatonna.

She was born July 23, 1926, in Staples, Minnesota, the daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Thorn) Bird. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944. On Nov. 5, 1944, Betty married Maynard Husemoller at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota. The couple farmed in rural Austin, Minnesota, until 1951, when they moved into Austin. In 1964, they moved to a farm between Owatonna and Claremont, Minnesota, where they raised Black Angus cattle.

Betty was a bookkeeper at a clothing store in Austin and then worked with her husband on the farm when they moved near Owatonna. She had a huge garden and canned all of the produce from her garden. She also raised chickens and sold the eggs in Pratt, Minnesota. She enjoyed baking and cooking and hosted many holiday gatherings.

Betty and Maynard enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, and taking trips to Las Vegas. She was a member of Aurora Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Dean Husemoller and James Husemoller, both of Owatonna; daughters, Susan Schaefer of Owatonna and JoAnn Ferguson of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Gabriel) Ferguson and Nathan (and Roberta) Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Maisie Ferguson; and step-great-grandson, Maddox. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth; husband, Maynard Husemoller; sister, Kate Carll; and son-in-law, Gerald Schaefer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Aurora Lutheran Church in Havana Township, Minnesota, with the Rev. Stephanie Wood officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Advocates For Developmental Disabilities or donor’s choice.
