According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a fire was reported at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 18769 650th Avenue in rural Adams.

Adams Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire with assistance from some members of the Rose Creek Fire Department. Mower County deputies responded, as did Adams Ambulance Service, though no injuries were reported.

While the cause is unknown, May said firefighters believe the fire may have started in the kitchen and/or northwest basement area, causing part of the kitchen floor to collapse into the basement.

The state fire marshal has been contacted to investigate, though foul play is not suspected, according to May.

The house suffered extensive damage. There is no damage estimate at this time.
