The No. 4 seeded Hayfield boys basketball team had their season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion in a 45-43 loss to top-seeded Spring Grove (22-4 overall) in Mayo Civic Center Wednesday.
Ethan Matzke hit the game-winning put-back for the Lions at the buzzer after a Hayfield turnover.
Mason Tapp had 21 points to lead the Vikings (24-5 overall).
“It’s a tough loss, but it’s a good season to go from five wins last year to 24 this year,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “I’m proud of them and we’re going to miss Mason next year. He had a heck of a season this year.”
