Darlene E. Culton, 72, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at her home.
Darlene was born Nov. 25, 1946, in Austin to Everett and Edna (Peach) Ulwelling. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Pacelli High School. Darlene then went on to nursing school, where she received her LPN license. She worked as a nurse at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin (Mayo Clinic Health System) for nearly 30 years before retiring.
Darlene was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included bowling, where she was a member of the Women’s 600 Club, and baking and decorating cakes. She enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas, Nevada, with friends. Darlene loved to play bingo.
Survivors include her three children, Alan Schumacher, Kimberley Grabau and Michael (Terry) Schumacher, all of Austin; four grandchildren, Brendan, Bryton, Zack and Garett; and two sisters, Nancy (Frank) Novotny, Austin, and Linda Brown, Janesville, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Edna Ulwelling; husband, Gary Culton; and daughter, Rebecca.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home and for one hour before the service on Monday at the church.
