David “Tuey” Lawrence Tschann, 81

David “Tuey” Lawrence Tschann, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully at his home on Good Friday morning, April 19, 2019.
David was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Austin, to Felix and Mary (Irvin) Tschann. He was a lifelong resident of Austin, graduating from St. Augustine (Pacelli) High School. On April 27, 1958, he married the love of his life Delores Belshan at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. The next day he headed out on a seven-year stint with the Army, serving with the 101st Airborne, that took him to several locations in the USA and overseas to Manheim, Germany. He also served in the National Guard for three years before enlisting in the Army.
Upon returning from active duty, David worked at the Austin Utilities. He then served the Austin community for 25 years in the Austin Fire Department, retiring at the rank of captain. During his firefighting career he received an associate’s degree in business and also owned and operated Austin Fire and Safety. After retiring, he worked as a bailiff and guardian ad litem at the Austin courthouse. In addition, he worked for Robbins Furniture and NAPA.
David was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, biking, football, and running, completing two Grandma’s Marathons and one Twin Cities Marathon. He especially enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.Together with his wife Delores, they attended many of their extracurricular activities. Another important part of his life was the time spent at his second home with family and friends in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, Delores, Austin; son, Mark (Jo) Tschann, Savage, Minnesota, son, Gary (Brenda) Tschann, Rochester, Minnesota, son, Paul (Monica) Tschann, Zumbrota, Minnesota, daughter, Joan (David) Hagen, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, daughter, Carol (Paul) Bultman, Waseca, Minnesota, and son, Brian (Mindy) Tschann, Rogers, Minnesota; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Tschann; and his daughter, Teresa Tschann.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes presiding, concelebrant Father John Evans, assisted by Deacon Paul Tschann. There will be a wake service at 6:45 p.m. on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends and family may call from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery outside of Myrtle, Minnesota.
