Superintendent David Krenz shared during Thursday’s special session that a new high school football coach was chosen after several interviews were conducted by Lisa Quednow, activities director.
The offer was extended to assistant coach Ed Schmitt on Wednesday, according to Quednow. Schmitt works for Mower County and has been an assistant football coach with the Packers for the last 13 years.
“Ed was definitely someone who is very invested in our kids, program and community,” she said. “He has a passion for Packer football and we’re just excited that he was a candidate and that he accepted the offer.”
Schmitt will be taking over for Brett Vesel, who recently accepted a head football coach position for the Dover-Eyota Eagles and submitted his coaching resignation earlier this year.
“We’re really excited,” Quednow said. “He’s going to be able to engage our kids and the community and help continue to improve our football program.”
