Applicants need to apply by April 26 for a summer internship position being offered by the Austin-based Mower Soil & Water Conservation District office.
This paid internship for up to 15 weeks – scheduling is flexible – will involve 40-hour work weeks aimed at assisting Mower SWCD staff in its efforts to work with farmers and partners to implement conservation and wildlife habitat measures on the ground throughout Mower County. The intern will also participate in and lead various water-monitoring programs that assess the conditions of local streams and land.
“We think this is a great opportunity for someone to gain a great deal of experience and knowledge through the numerous conservation projects our office is involved in on both the land and water,” said Mower SWCD district manager Justin Hanson.
Applicants do not need to have prior experience or knowledge in the position’s work duties that will include soil-health data collection, water monitoring, field work assistance, training and personal development, and office and administrative assistance. Mower SWCD staff will train and assign duties based on the intern’s experience and abilities.
Work under the internship will be performed in the Mower SWCD office, outdoors and at various sites throughout Mower County. Applicants must be able to lift at least 75 pounds on an occasional basis. The position will include exposure to outdoor conditions during fieldwork, such as walking cropland fields in all temperatures and humidity and exposure to construction noise.
Those interested can find more details on the internship along with an application on the Mower SWCD website at www.mowerswcd.org/summer-internship.
Applications are due by April 26, 2019, and can be mailed or brought to the Mower SWCD office at 1408 21st Ave. N.W. in Austin or sending it via email to justin.hanson@mowerswcd.org.
