Austin grad Josi Bothun was back in his comfort zone as he pitched Austin Post 91 to a 3-1 win over Owatonna in a Legion baseball game in Marcusen Park Tuesday.
Bothun struck out seven as he scattered four hits in the win. He has also pitched a pair of games for the Hounds this summer and he’s coming off a season at Riverland that saw him go 5-1 with an ERA of 1.95.
“I liked being out here and playing with my old buddies. We’ve got good chemistry together. It’s kind of funny going back to them after playing with Riverland and having the Puerto Rican culture on the team,” Bothun said. “I feel like I’ve gotten a little bit better. I’m more confident. I was just trying to pound the zone and throw strikes like I always do.”
Austin tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning when AJ Mueller hit a sacrifice fly and Post 91 (3-0 overall) grabbed the lead for good when Andrew Schumacher knocked in a run in the fifth.
Austin opened its season by sweeping Faribault by scores of 6-1 and 13-9 on the road Monday night.
